scaleSurgery has been successful so far.  Swelling has gone down.  My skin at the site on my wrist will remain tender and I still have quite a bit of bruising that needs to go away.  Most of the bruising is yellow with touches of green except in my palm where there are still some dark blue areas.  Bruises will be gone within a week.

Wednesday Weigh In

turkeyHappy Thanksgiving!  This year we went to my In-Laws for Thanksgiving.  I had already decided that I was going to just eat turkey, salad, and whatever non saucy vegetable they offered.  Other than having a second helping of a small piece of turkey (about 2 oz.) I stuck to my plan.  My MIL was nice enough to make sugar-free jello for me for dessert.  I didn’t feel deprived because I didn’t have mashed potatoes, bread or sweet potato casserole.  I felt full and we had a great time with my husbands parents.  I couldn’t ask for better In-Laws.  They raised a wonderful, caring, and giving son who I am very fortunate to have met and married.

  • Remaining: 29 lbs

Can you believe that I am less than 30 lbs from my goal weight!  I am so thrilled with the results I have gotten from TSFL/Medifast.  My success is due to many factors.

  1. I am ready to change how I eat.  I have changed my view on food.  I view it as fuel and not as a treat because I had a bad or good day.  I am not going to eat food in response to my emotions, I am going to eat when I need to.  I have also learned that I need to fill my plate halfway with vegetables, 1/4 with protein and the last quarter for an optional food.
  2. I changed “I can’t” eat that to “I don’t” eat that.  It’s not that a certain food is forbidden for me to eat. (We all know how forbidden foods lead to craving.)  It’s that I don’t eat that.  Just as I can’t eat dairy and acidic foods due to my chrons, I don’t eat foods that aren’t healthy at every meal.
  3. Support from my TSFL Coach Sara and from my friends and family.  Support has been invaluable to me.  Sara answers any questions I have and has offered lean & green meal ideas.  She also makes sure I have a plan in place for upcoming holidays. My family and friends aren’t bringing over cookies and cakes.  None of them pressure me to eat more or to just take a bit.  They have been my cheerleaders and I love them for helping me.
  4. I have a plan.  With less than 30 lbs to go until I reach goal, I am already planning for my maintenance step.  I am using Plan to Eat and I am creating a new recipe book that will no longer have heavy carb recipes.  I already know carbs (bread and pasta are my kryptonite) trigger binge eating for me.

Weigh In Wednesday

 

scaleI love fall!  I love the colors, the cool weather, but I don’t love the cravings for comfort foods it brings.  One of the reasons I tend to gain weight in the winter (other than reduced activity levels) are the food choices I make.  During the cold weather months, I tend to make casseroles and stews.  I am generally eating potatoes 3-4 times a week either mashed or cut up into stews.  This is one of the reasons I chose to start TSFL/Medifast in the fall.  I am aware of my eating patterns and I am using Medifast as a tool to break that pattern.  I have their chicken noodle soup and beef stew to eat.  I am not going to eat it when I have a craving.  I don’t want to substitute one craving for another.  I want to break that habit and form new healthier ones.

Vacation

I will be taking a trip in early February to meet my best friend, Vanessa, in Hong Kong.  Before I go on vacation, I have to decide how I am going to handle my diet.  I  will be within 10 lbs of my goal weight.  I have 3 options.

  1. Go off diet – It’s a vacation after all.  I will most likely never go there again.  I don’t think I will go completely off plan. If I can bypass birthday cake and my MIL’s holiday cooking, I can stay on plan.
  2. Modify my diet – I can switch over to a 4/2 plan instead of a 5/1 plan.  This is where I would have 2 lean and green meals and 4 medifast meals.  I actually like the idea of modifying my diet.  I will bring Medifast bars and drink packets and continue to eat every 3 hours.  This will allow me to try a few foods while I am on vacation.  Plus think of all the room I will have in my suitcase once I eat all my Medifast meals!
  3. Maintain my plan – I would continue to do the 5/1 plan.  I know that this is what Medifast recommends.  I don’t think this will work for me.  Many of the meals need water and a microwave.  I don’t really want to eat cereal, pretzel sticks and bars for 10 days.

My Favorite Meals

tsflToday I had to do some volunteering at my son’s school and having crunch bars in my bag, helped to make it easier to stay on plan.   I thought I would share my favorite meals.

Brownie/Gingerbread soft bake – Yummmmm.  I could eat these all day.  They are best hot right out of the oven.

Crunch bars – Chocolate, Peanut Butter, Cinnamon, Lemon are my favs.  The others are good too.

Soup – Chicken Noodle  is my favorite but Beef Vegetable comes in a close second.

Drinks – Chai Latte – I have had this every morning since the temperature cooled down.  I definitely need to order more.

Shake – Cherry Pomegranate Antioxidant Shake – I drink it icy cold, but I don’t chop up ice in it like a shake.

Pancakes – Spiced all the way!

Hearty Choice – Hearty Vegetarian Sloppy Joe

Cinnamon Pretzel Sticks

Now these are all pretty decent tasting diet foods.  They do not taste like the originals, but I find them tasty.  I am starting to compile a list of healthy meals for when I go off my diet.  If anyone has any recipe suggestions I would love to hear them.

Wednesday Weigh In

cheerI am so excited today.  Yesterday I went and bought a bunch of moulding which will take me several days to put up due to my being timid with a mitre saw.  Yes, I am still having nightmares about missing digits and even hands.  I am still going to tough it out.  What I am really excited about is my weight loss.

I know many people are dealing with body image and issues.  I do love myself the way I am.  By that I mean I love how sassy, sarcastic, and fun-loving I can be.  What I don’t love is being overweight.  I don’t enjoy having to choose to not do something spontaneously because I physically am not able to do it and will have to plan to alter what I do instead.  Where is the spontaneity in having to plan something and not being able to whole-heartedly just jump in? I want to able to race my kids up a set of stairs on the spur of the moment.  I want to drop what I am doing and go on a bike ride with them.  I can’t do that now.

tsflWhat I can do, and I am doing, is making a change.  I am using TSFL (Medifast) to begin that change.  I am using TSFL as a tool to help get me on the road to where I want to be.  Their 5/1 plan allows me to get other things done and only needing to plan one lean and green meal.  All the others I can grab and go, or I can microwave and have it ready in 4 minutes.  I find this a blessing  as I don’t have to constantly carry around an insulated bag for healthy snacks and I only have to be concerned over planning one meal.  I’m restricted to only their items other than my lean and green meal which is still restricted.  I feel that my body is getting used to tons of water a day (between 64 and 96 oz) and getting used to several small meals/snacks a day.  I have always been a grazer and eaten every 2-3 hours so this has easily fit into my life.

As a tool TSFL is helping me to drink more water, to eat smaller calorie restrictive meals and snacks and helping me to establish a pattern of better eating.  It’s October 8th and in 7 weeks Thanksgiving will be here.  I am hoping to have lost between 25lbs-30lbs by then.  I know I will be able to stick to my diet even over the holiday weekend.  I have told everyone that I am only going to eat some turkey, salad and green beans.  They will help hold me accountable if I slip.  I doubt I will.  Christmas is a whole different story.  I will cross that bridge when I get there.  I am not going to worry about it now.  I am going to focus on today.

Today I will be installing some of the moulding and painting even more.  I will focus only on todays goals and I’m not going to worry about tomorrow (unless my son has a test, then I won’t be able to not worry).  Today I will be sticking to my diet.  Today I will be celebrating how far I have come and I won’t be focusing on how far I have to do.  Today…. My pants almost fell off my hips!  So excited to have to wear a belt!  Woot! Woot!

Weigh-In Wednesday

As of today I have been on TSFL for 14 days.  I feel like I have more energy and I am happy that Pat noticed that I do look slimmer already.  I have started to need to wear a belt with some of my pants (yay).  I am looking forward to beginning an exercise routine (Babe is looking forward to it as well).  I plan on walking 3 days a week and on the other two days I will use light weights.

I think the reason I have been able to stick to the plan is by drinking large quantities of water.   I don’t feel hungry at all.  I did have a day off plan when I went to a friends funeral.   I did try to stay on plan but I ended up having 2 cokes (they didn’t have bottled water) and didn’t have my lean and green (left it in the fridge at home). Unfortunately it will alter my weight loss for the week.  I will be happy as long as the numbers don’t go up.

I am so happy to be down another 2 lbs.  I really expected my weight to stay the same after flubbing it on Friday.  Whew, what a relief!
